Vintage Inspired Bus Roll from Hirondelle Rustique

Vintage black and white prints were originally used on a roll to show the next destination for bus, tram and trolley stops. They've since become intriguing pieces of art and unique displays of personality for the home.

Hirondelle Rustique is proud to announce new customizable bus rolls to show some of your favorite streets, places, or cities you would love to visit. The bus roll shown in the images features areas from around my hometown. I've since moved away and it is a wonderful reminder of the places dear to my heart.

Printed on 16x20 inch canvas and mounted on a 1.5 inch thick stretcher frame, these bus rolls have fascinating graphical typography and a curious look about them that makes them great conversation starters for guests. Choose from 5-10 different destinations of your choice to have printed on your very own bus roll.

These make very sentimental gifts when printed with the place a couple has met, where they were married and the cities they share a love for or where they now live.

Beach House Luxury

My family and I had the opportunity to attend a cookout on a beach. Little did we know it would turn out to be one of the most amazing places we've ever visited. The owners of this lovely little luxury retreat have truly thought of everything, including their own private white sand beach.

This was one of the outbuildings that called out for us to sit down, relax, and stay a while. I love how breezy it is and how they've furnished it with comfortable outdoor furniture and a jute rug (it's the same one I have and it's super soft on your bare feet!).
Step out onto the white sand... ahhh!
They've built their own boardwalk with a retaining wall below to keep the sand from washing out to sea. There's even a little dining table on it for those romantic candlelit dinners...

Or one could dine up on the grass if they felt so inclined.
This "bedroom" is actually in an old boathouse that has since been gutted and remodeled. A large door opens up to reveal the ocean just feet from the bed.

It's the perfect place for entertaining or a private relaxing stay on the beach! I would love to have a little piece of luxury like this someday!

Hirondelle Rustique is going to be seeing some big changes in the next few days. I've been working on an entirely new blog design and some new features.

Until we meet again!

Homemade Jam

Our family has started a small tradition of picking berries every year to make freezer jam. This year, a friend of ours told us about a great little U-Pick berry farm in the city of Carnation, WA.

It's called Harvold Berry Farm and it's just north of the town. If you're ever in the area, I'd highly recommend this place, the berries were HUGE and at only $2.00 per pound, they were MUCH cheaper than buying from the grocery store, plus they let you eat while you pick!

It took us a little over an hour to pick two flats! The flats hold about 10 lbs each, we came in a bit under at two flats for $36.

For making the jam, we followed the recipe on the back of a box of Sur Gel Pectin, which is as follows:

3 Cups mashed berries
5 1/4 Cups sugar
3/4 Cup boiled water
1 Box Sur Gel Pectin

In a large bowl, stir sugar into mashed berries and let sit for 10 min, stirring occasionally. In a small sauce pan, boil 3/4 C water. Add box of pectin and boil for 1 minute. Stir constantly. Remove from heat, stir into berries until well mixed. Let the berries sit out for 24 hours, then spoon into containers and freeze.

We've been using these little square tupperware containers by Ball and they work great for keeping the jam.

And the final product! The best tasting jam in the world, yum!

Amazing Etsy Store

This seller, PetalByPetal, had one of her lovely Dahlias on Etsy's Front Page today and it tempted me to investigate further and take a peek at her shop. WHOA! was my first reaction as I looked around at her stunning creations.

Can you believe these are made of clay? I love the stephanotis with the rhinestone centers, they're one of my favorite flowers!
I would love to get one of these for our place. Can you imagine waking up to "fresh" flowers every single day?

I made it to the front page on Etsy!

I am so excited I could burst! My trophy print made it to the FRONT page on Etsy!!! Weeee!

I was on a mission to search for something when I happened to notice a pretty trophy dish on the front page. I was secretly envious, wishing I could have made it on there too. I scrolled down half a scroll and that's when I saw it. "Wait, is that MINE?" I thought. I immediately scrolled up to make sure I was even on Etsy's home page (not sure where I thought I was, but everything was so surreal I figured I was dreaming and had to pinch myself). This excitement is not going to leave me for weeks! Now if only I could remember what I wanted to search for in the first place...

New item!

I'm excited to share a new item I created for my shop, inspired by the photos I've taken of the
barn swallows.

Make it easy for your guests to spot where they’re sitting with these eye catching barn swallow place cards. A creative way to add a special touch to your wedding or dinner party!
